Day 5: Peace

Peace is a Fruit of the Holy Spirit, and it comes from acceptance of God’s Life in our souls.  When we are at peace with God, we will naturally be at peace with our neighbor. St. Paul tells us how to achieve peace: “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6) A couple lives in peace when God is at the center of their minds and hearts, and at the center of their marriage. Prayer, scripture reading, worship, humility, charity, and service to others will focus our minds and hearts on God and bring us peace. When we live in peace, we bring peace to all those around us in our lives.

St. Michael the Archangel told the three children at Fatima, “Fear not.  I am the Angel of Peace.  Pray with me.”  He prayed this prayer three times: “My God; I believe, I adore, I hope, and I love Thee! I beg Thee forgiveness for those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope, and do not love Thee!”  Although he is a powerful warrior against the forces of evil, St. Michael is committed to fostering peace.

Dear Lord, through the intercession of St. Michael the Archangel, please increase the virtue of peace in this couple.  May their minds be set on the Spirit, so that they will dwell in peace.  May they be peacemakers within their own family and among their friends and neighbors.  St. Michael, please defend them from all evil. Amen.
