Today we pray for an increase of the virtue of forgiveness in [insert names]. Forgiveness is letting go of bad feelings towards each other. This virtue depends on humility because the humble person thinks of the other instead of himself or herself. Pride leads us to think more of ourselves and leads us to dwell on hurts and wrongs done to us. Forgiveness prevents resentment and bitterness that can erode relationships.
St. Augustine taught that, after Baptism, Christians should
pray the Lord’s Prayer as a “daily Baptism.”
The words “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass
against us” are direction from Our Lord that we must forgive each other to
receive forgiveness from God.
Dear Lord, we pray through the intercession of St. Augustine
for [insert names], on their wedding day and every day, to be delivered from all
evils, both physical and spiritual, and for a daily increase in virtue and good
works, especially the virtue of forgiveness.
Amen
