Today we pray for the increase of the virtue of fortitude in [insert names]. Fortitude is courage that is increased through God’s Grace. It is the fourth of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and corresponds to the fourth Beatitude, “Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice.” St. Thomas Aquinas said that fortitude “is required both in doing good and in enduring evil, especially with regard to goods or evils that are difficult” (Summa Theologica. II-II, Q 139, a.1)
St. Gianna Molla exemplified fortitude. Since she was a child, she always felt a strong commitment to her duties and responsibilities and gave her best in everything she did. She witnessed the Gospel in her life as a wife, mother, and doctor, giving her life rather than abort her child. She and her husband are a holy couple to emulate.
Dear
Lord, we pray through the intercession of St. Gianna Mola for the increase of
the virtue of fortitude in [insert names], that they may become a sign of Your
love for the Church and for all men and women, as St. Gianna was. Holy Spirit,
source of all perfection, please give [insert names] wisdom, intelligence, and
courage so that, following St. Gianna’s example and through her intercession,
they may serve every person in their personal, family, and professional life,
and thus grow in love and holiness. Amen
