Today we pray for an increase of forgiveness. Think about how Jesus
gave His Life for our sins—all of us, even those who have hurt us. Think about
how He forgave his tormenters from the Cross, “Forgive them, Father, for they
know not what they do.” Think about the words of the Lord’s Prayer, “forgive us
our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Then ask for His
help to forgive those who have hurt us.
St. Rita of Cascia wanted to be a nun, but was forced to marry
Paolo Mancini, who had a very bad temper. She prayed for him throughout their
marriage, and Paolo eventually asked forgiveness for the suffering he had
caused. After he was murdered by rivals, their sons wanted to take revenge on
his killers. Rita prayed for them, and they died of an illness soon after their
father, asking for forgiveness. Rita forgave her husband’s killers and made
peace between them and the families. “St.
Rita is a teacher on how to love your enemies. Not only did she forgive their
wrongs, but desired heaven for them. She looked to Jesus’ example from the
cross when he asked God the Father to forgive those who crucified him.” https://diocesan.com/st-rita-teacher-of-forgiveness/.
Dear Lord, I pray for myself and (names). Through the
intercession of St. Rita of Cascia, please increase in us the desire to forgive
those who have hurt us. Fill our souls with Your Divine Mercy, that we may
share it with all who have hurt us. Give peace to our souls so that we may
become peacemakers in our families. Amen.
Thank you for praying this novena with us. We hope it has blessed
you with peace.
