Today we pray for an increase of the virtue of humility in [insert names]. Humility is the opposite of pride, and the virtue that is most necessary in Christian life.
Saints Zelie and Louis Martin, the parents of St. Therese of
Lisieux, exemplified the virtue of humility in their lives. They lived modestly, reaching out to the poor
and needy, and led daily prayers in their household. Their saintliness was apparent to their
children, five daughters who all entered the religious life. St. Therese wrote of them, “God gave me a
father and mother who were more worthy of heaven than of earth.”
Dear Lord, Saints Zelie and Louis Martin heard
your call to the vocation of marriage and gave all glory to God through humble
and patient work, commitment to the poor and their family life. Please grant through their intercession an
increase of the virtue of humility in [insert names], that they may have the same happiness
of loving and being loved in their family life.
