The virtue of Patience, which is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, helps us to remain calm and trust in God, rather than becoming frustrated and losing our temper when things do not go the way we expect them to. Patience allows us to think, say, and do the right thing in the right way at the right time. The patient person waits and trusts in God to provide all things that are necessary for family life. In every life there is sorrow and pain; patience is the ability to endure those times without giving up hope and without resorting to irritation, agitation, and irritability towards our spouses and our children.
St. Joachim and St. Anne exemplified the virtue of patience, as,
according to tradition, they waited many years for a child. Although they were
growing old and still did not have a child, they trusted that God had a plan
for them. They remained open to God’s will and were thankful for the blessings God
had given them. Their patience and perseverance in faith and hope was rewarded
with the great blessing of being the parents of the Virgin Mary.
Dear
Lord, through the prayers of St. Joachim and St. Anne, grant this couple an
increase of the virtue of patience in their lives, that they may experience
peace in their souls and trust in You. Please grant that they may never waiver
in faith and hope, no matter what hardships they experience in their lives. Amen.
