Day 8: Piety

The virtue of piety, one of the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit, makes our worship an act of love for God.  Piety makes us want to worship Him out of love, not simply duty.  A couple who practice piety in their lives together seek opportunities to worship God, not out of duty, but out of love for God.  Pious practices such as attending daily Mass, praying the rosary and Divine Mercy Chaplet, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and other daily and weekly prayers become regular habits.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina, who was known as Padre Pio, was a stigmatic and mystic.  For fifty years, he bore the wounds of Christ in his hands and feet.  True to his name, he was very pious, celebrating Mass with great devotion and praying multiple rosaries every day.  He was even known to levitate during prayer.

Dear Lord, through the intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, please grant this couple an increase of piety, that they may seek more opportunities to worship You with devotion and constancy.  May their love for You increase each day of their lives until they, with great joy, join you in Heaven. Amen.
