Today we pray for an increase in the virtue of humility. The humble person accepts the sorrows that come his way in the knowledge that God will make something beautiful out of them. As Joseph said to his brothers in Egypt, “Even though you meant harm to me, God meant it for good, to achieve this present end, the survival of many people.” (Genesis 50:20) We may not ever know for many years what good has come out of our sorrow.
St. Paul the Simple learned that his wife had been unfaithful to
him. Instead of becoming angry with her, he decided to become a hermit. His
suffering became a source of great holiness. “Paul’s heart was crushed by the love of his life. And yet
rather than dwelling on the negative, he took that suffering and tragedy and
turned it into something beautiful through, with, and in Jesus Christ” https://catholicsaintsguy.wordpress.com/2016/03/07/his-wifes-cheating-increased-his-faithfulness-to-god/
Dear Lord, I pray for myself and (names). Through the
intercession of St. Paul the Simple, please give us hearts that are meek and
humble. Let us not dwell on hurts, past and present, but help us to turn our suffering
into beautiful acts of love. Amen.
